
Paramedic - Emergency Department - Rotating

Overview
Three 12 hour shifts weekly to include rotating weekends. Under the supervision of a licensed physician medical director and a manager, the ED Technician II performs and assists with a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities. These include assistance with activities of daily living, comfort care and nutritional support, and performance of selected diagnostic and therapeutic tasks and procedures as directed. Indirect patient care activities include maintaining a clean safe environment, ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and equipment, and data collection as pertinent to the patient population.

Current EMT-P/Paramedic certification/licensure in Virginia
AHA ACLS Certification

Current EMT-P/Paramedic certification/licensure in Virginia

AHA PALS Certification or equivalent within 90 days of hiring
NAEMT PHTLS, ACS ATLS or equivalent preferred
Experience
Experience REQUIRED: Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care within the scope of practice of an AEMT, EMT-Intermediate, Paramedic - or MMAC Qualified Combat Medic/68W, Corpsman or Medical Technician/4NOX.
Experience
Experience PREFERRED: 1 year of active pre-hospital service
Previous hazardous materials experience

Education/training REQUIRED: Successful completion of an accredited EMT-P/Paramedic course.

May function independently under protocols approved by VCUHS Medical Director and hospital and departmental policy/procedure. Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in providing patient care, emotional support, and problem solving; all in accordance with hospital and unit policy/procedure. Functions under departmental Standards of Practice (SOP) in the communications room and in the role of patient transport in collaboration with RN and Physician colleagues. Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
