NaphCare is hiring a Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at Bibb Correctional Facility in Brent, Alabama. The unit is a therapeutic environment, providing intensive day treatment services. NaphCare is partnered with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office to provide this program, which is supported by the SNAMHS and funded through the NV-DHHS Division of Public and Behavioral Health. The Behavioral Health RN should have experience as a Psychiatric RN in a mental health or correctional setting (e.g., psychiatric hospital, mental health clinic, jail/prison) and be comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
The Behavioral Health RN will be responsible for providing routine nursing care including assessments, medication administration, drawing labs, and nursing interventions for the THRIVE unit. The RN has a separate, fully equipped nursing room on the THRIVE unit with its own workstation in addition to access to the off-unit office. The RN will work with a team of psychiatric providers, mental health clinicians, recreational therapist, discharge planner, and data coordinator led and supported by a program director.
Serve as a contributing member of the multidisciplinary treatment team
Administer prescribed medications safely and document each administration in the patient chart in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies
Conduct and document initial (or updates to existing) nursing assessments
Initiate, administer, and document prescribed protocol including medication administrations
Schedule, track, and facilitate medical sick calls to in‑facility physicians
Track laboratory and diagnostic procedure orders and results
Conduct and document at least one psychoeducational group per week related to healthcare
Complete nursing treatment summaries for discharge summaries
Coordinate with facility health and correctional staff regarding patients’ mental and physical health care (e.g., Director of Nursing, Health Services Administrator, nursing and medical staff)
Participate in educational and training activities related to mental health care for patients, security personnel, and healthcare staff
Qualifications
Position Requirements / Preferred Experience:
Must hold a current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Alabama
Must hold or obtain a valid CPR card
Must possess strong written communication, verbal, and rapport‑building skills
Experience training/working in a psychiatric or mental health setting required
Certification as a Psychiatric RN is highly preferred but not required
Experience in correctional or inpatient mental health care setting preferred but not required
Physical Capabilities
Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift.
