This job delivers medications to designated areas under close supervision and according to detailed instructions, policies and procedures. The role refills and maintains automated dispensing machines; prices manual medication orders, inventories and reorders stock in the pharmacy; enters data into a computer system and prints labels; reviews physician's orders and enters patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system; identifies problems with orders and notifies pharmacist or nursing staff when clarification is needed; accurately compounds IV admixtures and other assigned preparations using aseptic technique and proper pharmaceutical procedures; maintains stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas; performs related clerical duties including typing, answering phone, filing and greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Position schedule: OVER NIGHTS, 7 ON – 7 OFF.

Responsibilities

Ensures customer service and teamwork while conducting responsibilities.

Fills medication orders, charges/credits all medication, stocks, delivers, and inspects assigned areas.

Prepares IV admixtures and other extemporaneous compounds and enters TPN orders into the computer system.

Maintains competency in professional growth and responsibilities.

Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, appropriate introduction to the patient, adapting explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions and communication style.

Other related duties as required.

Deliver medications to designated areas under close supervision.

Price manual medication orders, inventory and reorder stock.

Enter data into a computer system and print labels as necessary.

Review physician's orders and enter patient medication orders into the pharmacy order entry system.

Notify pharmacist or nursing when orders require clarification or patient information.

Compounds IV admixtures and other preparations utilizing aseptic technique.

Maintain stock in all assigned areas including the IV room and other pharmacy areas.

Perform clerical duties: typing, answering phone, filing, greeting nurses and physicians at the Pharmacy window.

Education
High School diploma or equivalent.

Work Experience
Preferred – 1 year hospital experience.

Certifications

Required – 1 year of college or completion of a para‑professional pharmacy training program, or Certified Pharmacy Technician Licensure or National Certification.

Preferred – Certified Pharmacy Technician License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)

Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.

Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

Skills to operate standard pharmacy and office equipment.

Strong interpersonal skills.

Physical and Environmental Demands
Medium Work – Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach and grab with arms and hands, manual dexterity. Must be able to travel throughout and between facilities. Must be able to work a flexible schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on call availability). Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, and incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid. The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable disease. Mechanical lifting devices or team lifts should be utilized.
