Medical Assistant II, Center for Surgical Optimization in Newark

ChristianaCare’s Center for Surgical Optimization (CSO) prepares patients for surgery by supporting them from the time a decision is made until the day of surgery. CSO manages co‑morbidities, provides education for best outcomes, and optimizes patients for surgery. The Medical Assistant II plays a vital case in the care team by greeting patients, collecting medication histories, labs, EKGs, and retrieving critical information to accelerate surgical optimization and schedule appointments.

Responsibilities

Assist clinicians in patient examination and treatment, promoting patient satisfaction through proactive patient access activities.

Collaborate with physicians, patients, and interdepartmental staff to ensure seamless patient‑care delivery and fiscal management of encounters.

Greet and support patients, record vital signs, and perform point‑of‑care testing, venipuncture, ECG, and specimen collection.

Prepare treatment rooms with necessary supplies, perform quality control on POCT equipment, and complete patient‑specific paperwork.

Handle patient callbacks, schedule tests, and perform daily operational activities.

Coordinate patient‑care activities with insurance companies, care managers, and physician office staff to minimize financial risk and maximize patient care delivery.

Qualifications

High School Graduate or GED required.

Graduated from a recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

At least 2 years of progressively responsible clinical administrative experience required.

At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant required.

Associate degree in business or medical-related field preferred.

Previous insurance or third‑party experience preferred.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Wilmington Location hours: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

No weekends or holidays.

Pay Rate
Hourly Pay Range: $19.84 – $29.76. This range represents the organization’s good faith estimate; the actual salary offered will depend on skills, experience, and qualifications.
