Litigation Paralegal
in the Chicago office.
The Scopelitis team is experienced not only in accident defense litigation, but also in regulatory compliance, business structuring and transactions, insurance, labor and employment, taxation, mergers and acquisitions, workers' compensation, logistics, driver leasing, warehousing, private fleet operations, outsourcing, and customs. We also represent clients in a variety of other related industries, including insurance, alternative workforce strategies, construction and real estate development, manufacturing, retail goods, and professional services. With our principal office in Indianapolis and other offices located coast to coast, we are easily accessible to clients nationwide.
Opportunity
The candidate will provide diverse paralegal services in state, federal, and agency litigation, have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, NetDocs, or other document management software, and possess excellent verbal and written communication and time management skills.
Education and Certification Requirements
Formal legal training resulting, at a minimum, in a Certificate of Completion of Paralegal Course of Study from an accredited college or university, or a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA‑accredited program and/or a Bachelor’s degree; and
Two or more years of experience as a litigation paralegal or legal assistant.
Essential Job Duties
Meeting with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned cases or projects;
Drafting correspondence, pleadings, discovery, and open record requests;
Requesting, reviewing, and organizing medical and employment records;
Cite checking of briefs utilizing Westlaw and Lexis research software;
Performance of background checks and social media searches;
Deposition and trial preparation with potential attendance at trials and hearings which may include travel;
Daily timekeeping responsibilities in accordance with the billing guidelines of the firm and its clients; and
Such other related duties as assigned.
