Mechanical Design Engineer
Location:
Fishers, IN
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dedicated in‑house engineering group responsible for HVAC system design and limited plumbing design support. This position supports design‑build project delivery, working directly alongside internal fabrication, installation, BIM, and electrical teams to develop efficient, constructible mechanical systems.
Unlike traditional plan/spec engineering roles, this position offers direct involvement in design/bid and design‑build work, allowing engineers to maintain technical authority while benefiting from streamlined project coordination and accelerated design cycles.
Core Responsibilities
Develop HVAC system designs and construction documents, including drawings and specifications, for commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities
Perform heating and cooling load calculations using Trace or similar software and evaluate system options based on performance, constructability, and project requirements
Select mechanical equipment and systems; size ductwork, hydronic piping, and plumbing components
Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors to develop compliant, site‑specific design solutions
Conduct field surveys and existing conditions assessments in support of proposals and active projects
Contribute to project planning by adjusting design approaches and supporting detailed design phases
Prepare, review, and verify engineering calculations, reports, and technical documentation
Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines using Revit and Navisworks, resolving clashes and constructability concerns
Provide ongoing coordination and technical support throughout the design and construction process
Qualifications
4+ years of mechanical engineering experience (HVAC or plumbing systems)
Strong Revit design proficiency
Ability to work in a fast paced environment
Ability to coordinate between disciplines on the design
Nice‑to‑Haves
Commercial and industrial systems experience is preferred
Experience from design consulting firms is also preferred
Project Exposure
Industrial and manufacturing facilities
Warehouse and tenant improvement projects
Commercial buildings including higher education, K‑12, hospitality, office, and large food service facilities
Engineering Environment
This role is part of a fully integrated engineering organization where design decisions directly inform fabrication and installation. Engineers benefit from close collaboration with BIM specialists, electrical engineers, and construction teams, resulting in practical, efficient designs and reduced rework.
What Sets This Opportunity Apart
In‑house engineering team with direct influence over constructability
Integrated design‑build delivery supporting faster project execution
Exposure to a diverse range of building types and mechanical systems
