Duties
Receive, examine, and determine the condition and disposition of a wide variety of materials.
Review disposal turn-in documents accompanying material; compare data against property to assure correct information and proper documentation (e.g., stock number, nomenclature, quantity, unit of issue, disposal authority code, DEMIL, condition code).
Visually inspect usable property for obvious signs of condition and determine acceptability.
Determine condition, reportability, and special handling requirements (e.g., hazardous material, precious metals, security, DEMIL, Special focus items) and assign appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
Verify accuracy of demilitarization codes, challenge questionable items/codes, and maintain segregated storage of property requiring DEMIL.
Ensure proper certification is attached to turn‑in document when demilitarized by host or generating activity.
Perform special and periodic inventory of property; re‑palletize/re‑locate property as necessary.
Operate forklifts and related materials‑handling equipment to move, load, unload, stack, or un‑stack palletized materials, supplies, and equipment.
Multiple location/shift: Position may be used to fill various shifts located throughout Disposition Services / Barstow, San Bernardino, CA.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
Security Requirements: Non‑Critical Sensitive.
Appointment subject to a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorable adjudication of background checks will result in removal.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Non‑Exempt.
Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt.
Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized.
Bargaining Unit Status: Yes.
Selectees must have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.
Pre‑Employment Physical: Required.
Must obtain and maintain licenses and/or certifications required by the installation, federal, state, and local laws.
Qualifications
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. While a specific length of time and experience is not required, applicants must meet any screen‑out element listed and demonstrate, through experience and training, the level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties.
Experience may include paid, unpaid, volunteer work, and other relevant activities. Volunteer work that builds critical competencies, knowledge, and skills is credited toward the qualification.
Physical Effort
Perform moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand‑truck. May lift or carry items weighing up to 50 lb. Heavier items are moved with handling equipment or assistance. Work is performed on hard surfaces, over rough terrain, and on forklifts. Assignments require prolonged working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and moving material.
Working Conditions
Work is performed inside warehouses that may be hot, cold, damp, or drafty and in outside areas such as dock areas and scrap yards. Exposure to physical hazards associated with scrap yard, open storage, and warehouse operations is common. Workers wear safety equipment as required. Incumbents must follow all safety standards, use protective equipment, report incidents immediately, and adhere to safety regulations. Participation in a medical surveillance program may be required.
