Overview
The Town of Scarborough's Public Works Department is seeking an experienced vehicle mechanic to join the Town's maintenance division. The full-time Fleet Maintenance Technician II will work in a team environment in the repair and maintenance of a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment including automobiles, light and heavy trucks, school buses, fire and rescue apparatus, police vehicles, and public works equipment.
Responsibilities and duties include performing preventive maintenance on town vehicles, diagnosing defects of motor vehicles and mechanical equipment, and repairing various mechanical systems, including Engine, Transmission, Hydraulic and Air Brakes, Electrical systems, Hydraulic and Water systems, Cooling systems, and Drivelines.

Perform preventive maintenance on town vehicles and heavy equipment.
Diagnose defects of motor vehicles and mechanical equipment.
Repair mechanical systems such as engine, transmission, hydraulic and air brakes, electrical systems, hydraulic and water systems, cooling systems, and drivelines.
Qualifications
Professional experience as an automotive mechanic, particularly in heavy trucks or equipment.
Minimum CDL B or the ability to obtain a CDL within six months.
Maine State Inspection License Class A, D, and E or the ability to obtain.
Working knowledge of standard practices, methods, equipment, and tools related to automotive, heavy truck and construction equipment trades.
Willingness to learn ongoing repair techniques to maintain a wide array of vehicles and heavy equipment.
Familiarity with health and safety regulations related to the field.
Ability to work independently in the shop and away from the shop and to accept on-call duties for emergency breakdowns.
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the Town's discretion.

This position requires a CDL and applicants may be subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances prior to employment and during employment as applicable by law/regulations.
