Job Description
Nemours is seeking an SPD Tech to join our Nemours Children's Health team in Wilmington, DE. This is a full-time, nightshift position. The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Technician is responsible for inspection, decontamination, sterilization, and assembly of surgical instrumentation within the guidelines set forth by industry standards and regulations, including the following associations:

International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)

Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)

Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN)

The Joint Commission (TJC)

U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

Center for Disease Control (CDC)

Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)

Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)

The SPD Technician is accountable for adherence to Nemours policies and procedures across multiple centers and responsible for compliance with preference cards in preparing surgical case carts and supporting the operating room central cores based on daily assignments. The SPD Technician is expected to maintain all state and federal clearances for DE, PA, and NJ for periodic rotation to the Malvern Surgery Center, PA, and the Deptford Ambulatory Surgery Center, Deptford, NJ as discretion of Perioperative Leadership.

Responsibilities

Follow established protocols for inspecting, decontaminating, preparing, packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing instrumentation, and storing medical/surgical supplies and equipment.

Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility as needed.

Adhere to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.

Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas.

Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician’s preference lists and anticipated needs of the perioperative team.

Maintain inventory, including receiving and restocking materials used for supporting sterile processing services in collaboration with the Materials Management Department.

Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines.

Qualifications

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) required

High School Diploma required

American Heart Association BLS within six months
