Job Description
The Hospital Medicine Department at MUSC Health – Catawba is seeking skilled Acute Care trained Advanced Practice Providers interested in providing adult in‑patient care in our facility. MUSC Health Catawba is made up of 3 facilities: Lancaster, SC; Chester, SC; and Indian Land, SC.

Salary/Exempt

Hours per week
7 on 7 off schedule; scheduled work hours/shift: 5:00pm - 5:00am

Patient Population Focus
Inpatient; age 18 years – death

Required Minimum Training

Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.

Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.

Completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner with prior hospital medicine and/or ICU experience will also be considered.

Required Experience
At least 6 months of hospital medicine experience preferred.

Preferred Training And Experience
1 year as a Physician Assistant or FNP/AGACNP in Hospital medicine preferred but not required. ICU experience a plus but not required.

Degree of Supervision
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a primary supervising/collaborating physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner with the SC Board of Nursing.

Requires certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). If ACLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.

DHEC and DEA license.

Job Duties

Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations.

Works with Nocturnist, mainly on admissions and cross coverage.

Evaluates and treats on the basis of history, physical examination, radiological, laboratory, and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline.

Initiates referrals to other health care providers, and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician.

Documents and bills for direct care provided.

Utilizes current research and evidence‑based decision‑making in all clinical practice.

Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research.

Participates in and supports accreditation, compliance, and regulatory activities of the organization.

Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education.

Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members.

APRN or PA must maintain licenses, certifications, CNEs/CMEs, etc. as required by applicable policies and state law.

Additional Job Description
Graduation from an approved Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC‑PA) or its predecessor agencies. Must be licensed in the state of South Carolina, and certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
