Temporary Banquet Captain

Position Summary:
At the Georgia Center, the Banquet Captain assists the banquet team in creating an optimal atmosphere for large events, conferences and meetings. Banquet Captains are responsible for event set‑up, working and/or running events, helping direct banquet student and temporary staff for individual events, maintaining basic equipment and cleaning, and the breakdown of meeting and banquet rooms according to department standards. Handling cash/credit cards may be required at times.
Responsibilities
Participate in setting up events including moving tables, setting tables and chairs, staging, portable stairs, podiums, buffet set‑up, bar set‑up, equipment for speakers, etc.
Follow operational standards to exceed customers’ expectations for cleanliness, food presentation, and quality.
Perform necessary work for future banquet events as directed.
Ensure all meeting and event rooms are prepared for clients/guests at least 2 hours prior to contracted time.
Read and interpret Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and planning sheets from the Banquet management team.
Clean up after the function: sweep, mop, clear dishes from tables, reorganize staging areas as assigned, put equipment and supplies away in proper storage areas. Handle cash or credit cards when required.
Qualifications
Requires at least a high school diploma or equivalent.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Knowledge of material methods and equipment used in setting up events.
Ability to set up workstations with all needed supplies and equipment.
Maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
Set up and prepare dining areas in accordance with banquet event orders, planning documents, and production schedules.
Exercise good decision‑making and adjust as needed according to management or client direction.
Communicate effectively and follow direction from supervisors and management.
Physical Demands
Move loads up to 50 lbs., unloading and stocking products. Perform push/pull activity with items up to 30 lbs. Work with repetitive motion of wrists, arms, and shoulders; hand and finger coordination. Reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel. Work in noisy, hot/cold environments with chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors. Work long hours standing. Drive required for job duties.
