Income Maintenance Caseworker - Bedford County Assistance Office

The Income Maintenance Caseworker is responsible for determining eligibility for financial assistance programs—including Medicaid, SNAP, LIHEAP, Nursing Home Care, Waivers, and other programs administered by the Department of Human Services under state regulations. The position requires the completion of an 8‑week Income Maintenance Standard Training Program and involves interviewing clients over the phone or in person, reviewing and interpreting policy, entering data into an automated eligibility system, performing manual calculations, typing clear case comments, and meeting deadlines in accordance with federal and state policy. All work is carried out under the general supervision of an Income Maintenance Casework Supervisor.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full‑time employment, 37.5 hours per week.

Work hours 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 60‑minute lunch (subject to operational needs).

Overtime and travel as operationally necessary.

Telework: The position may be eligible for part‑time telework; a secure high‑speed internet connection and an approved location within Pennsylvania are required. Telework may be altered or eliminated at any time.

Salary: New employees begin at an annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

Qualifications

Minimum four years of experience in interviewing or work requiring analysis and interpretation of data, or a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Applicants who are within three months of graduating may also qualify.

Must meet Pennsylvania residency requirements. Preference may be given to candidates residing in Bedford County.

Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements

Conditional employment requires submission of criminal history reports and a background investigation.

The position has access to Federal Tax Information and is subject to IRS Publication 1075, requiring an enhanced background check.
