We’re committed to serve, heal, lead, educate, and innovate. Our dedicated employees make a difference every day at Ochsner Health. This position provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support to patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric.

Responsibilities

Provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing and ventilation support to in-patients and out-patients.

Monitor and wean oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation.

Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and EKGs.

Deliver intermittent therapy and assist with changing artificial airways.

Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures per established policies.

Review and document all clinical information for each patient.

Educate patients and coworkers on procedures and treatment plans.

Maintain professional certifications and stay current with technical procedures.

Attend staff meetings and perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.

Current license as a Respiratory Therapist in state of practice.

Certified Respiratory Therapist by National Board of Respiratory Care.

BLS certification from American Heart Association.

NEP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification for NICU therapists.

ACLS certification obtained within 90 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree.

Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.

Additional relevant certifications.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Strong analytical and interpersonal skills.

Physical & Environmental Demands
Work may involve heavy lifting, including occasional lifting in excess of 100 pounds and frequent lifting greater than 50 pounds. Physical tasks may require pushing, pulling, or carrying objects from rarely to constantly. Exposure to blood, body fluids, communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste is possible. Work is conducted in patient care areas.
