School-Based Physical Therapist (Pediatric)

Location:

Elmira City School District (Elmira, NY)
Schedule Options:

Full-time, 10-month (summers off) or 12-month

This is a rewarding opportunity for a Physical Therapist who is passionate about pediatric care and wants to make a lasting impact in a school setting. You’ll work directly with students to support their physical development and participation in daily school life—while enjoying a consistent schedule and a collaborative environment.

Your Role
Evaluate students, create individualized treatment plans, and deliver therapeutic interventions based on Physical Therapy best practices. You’ll partner closely with an interdisciplinary team and report to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehab Services.

What You’ll Do

Review therapy referrals and assess students’ physical needs

Develop and implement treatment plans including therapeutic exercise, gait training, soft tissue techniques, modalities, and functional training

Teach proper use of mobility aids, braces, prosthetics, and adaptive equipment

Monitor progress and adjust treatment plans as needed

Collaborate with physicians and care team members to ensure coordinated care

Complete all required documentation (evaluations, progress notes, discharge summaries)

Provide direction to rehab support staff

Maintain safety standards, equipment, and infection control procedures

Contribute to quality initiatives, meetings, and committees

Assist with student transport and provide coverage for senior therapists as needed

Participate in ongoing education, trainings, and professional development

Deliver age‑appropriate care across all populations

Qualifications

Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Physical Therapist in New York State

BLS certification required within 90 days of hire

Hospital or acute care experience preferred

Physical Requirements

Moderate to significant physical activity including lifting, pushing, and pulling

Ability to lift 30 lbs independently and up to 150 lbs with assistance

Safety & Infection Control

Category II exposure (occasional exposure to blood/body fluids)

Adherence to universal precautions and safety protocols
