Overview
This is a PRN position for an RN in the Emergency Room at HCA Florida South Tampa Hospital, MAIN CAMPUS ER (2901 W. Swann Avenue, Tampa, FL 33609).
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care in accordance with the department’s requirements and the standards of practice for the state and specialty. In collaboration with medical providers and the care team, the RN delivers individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care using established nursing models such as Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage. The RN serves as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers and supports the organization’s vision, mission, and values to promote an exceptional patient experience and positive clinical outcomes.
Responsibilities
Assesses patient pain regularly to promote effective pain management, including reassessments after appropriate intervention.
Performs procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Documents the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
Responds promptly to patient requests and strives to anticipate patient needs, resolving them proactively.
Teaches patients, families, and caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, status, treatment plan, medications, possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology for complete understanding.
Discusses non-medicinal follow-up measures, such as healthy diet and exercise, disease prevention, and other lifestyle changes. Prepares patients and families for future self-management.
Qualifications
Must be licensed as a Florida Registered Nurse in accordance with state regulations or hold an appropriate compact licensure. If a compact license is held, an active FL RN license is required within 60 days of hire.
Nursing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred.
Minimum of one year ER RN experience required.
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and/or ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course) certifications required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
Current NIHSS, TNCC, CPI training required; new hires must obtain within 6 months of hire date. Transferring employees must obtain within 6 months.
National Board Certification (CEN, CPEN) highly preferred.
Critical thinking, service excellence and strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions; computer literacy.
