Overview
The primary purpose of this position is to support clinical research study visits by performing skilled nursing tasks related to timed blood collection and participant monitoring. The role includes placement and management of IV catheters, accurate and timely collection of blood samples according to study protocols, and thorough documentation of procedures and participant responses. The position also applies clinical judgment to assess and respond to study-related symptoms, ensuring participant safety and protocol compliance during each visit.
Responsibilities
Support clinical research study visits by performing skilled nursing tasks related to timed blood collection and participant monitoring.
Place and manage IV catheters and collect blood samples according to strict study protocols.
Document all procedures and participant responses thoroughly.
Apply clinical judgment to assess and respond to study-related symptoms, ensuring participant safety and protocol compliance during visits.
Scheduling and Availability
Work Schedule: Saturdays, occasional weekday hours.
Availability to work Saturday study visits, with preference for candidates able to work at least two Saturdays per month.
Flexibility for occasional weekday hours as needed based on study scheduling.
Willingness to complete required study-specific training (approximately 20–25 paid hours) prior to working with participants.
Minimum Qualifications
Current, active, and unrestricted North Carolina license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN).
Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree in Nursing required for LPN/RN; Bachelor of Science in Nursing may be accepted or preferred depending on role classification).
Demonstrated clinical experience performing IV catheter insertion and venipuncture for blood collection.
Experience working in a clinical or patient care setting with direct patient interaction.
Ability to follow detailed protocols and adhere to precise timing requirements for clinical procedures.
Basic proficiency with electronic documentation or clinical data entry systems.
Departmental Skills and Experience
Active licensure in North Carolina as an LPN or RN.
Experience with IV placement, venipuncture, and blood sample collection.
Ability to follow detailed clinical research protocols with precision, including timed procedures.
Preferred Experience and Skills
1–3 years of nursing experience in clinical, outpatient, or research settings.
Proficiency in IV catheter placement and repeated blood collection procedures.
Experience with timed sample collection or protocol-driven clinical workflows.
Strong clinical assessment skills, including monitoring vital signs and recognizing adverse symptoms.
High level of accuracy in documentation and data entry.
Ability to work independently while adhering to strict protocols.
Prior experience or training in clinical research (e.g., GCP – Good Clinical Practice).
Familiarity with electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap or similar).
Experience supporting study visits or research participant interactions.
Licensing and Compliance
Active licensure in North Carolina as an LPN or RN.
Valid NC Driver's License required.
Commercial Driver's License not required.
