Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Department: UNC Health Johnston ICU Department includes 16 intensive care beds. The ICU is designed to provide extraordinary care on a concentrated and continuous basis to those patients with critical or potentially life‑threatening conditions that require close observation and more intensive nursing and/or medical intervention than can be provided on the general nursing units. We provide care to patients requiring CRRT, balloon pumps, Impellas, and many other treatment modalities. UNC Johnston is a Stroke, Chest Pain and STEMI accredited facility. Our ICU team consists of Registered Nurses and Monitor Techs that are committed to provide excellent, compassionate, and innovative care for our growing community.
Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities
Education – participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; attends education programs; uses patient education materials; assesses readiness or developmental level.
Evaluation of Care – identifies expected patient outcomes; seeks guidance; participates in interdisciplinary evaluation; communicates relevant information.
Implementation – demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems; performs bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilizes organizational policies; organizes and prioritizes care; consults resources timely.
Leadership – develops goals, achieves objectives, facilitates collaboration, participates in unit goals, promotes cost‑effective care, gives feedback, ensures a safe environment.
Patient Assessment – recognizes data to determine priorities; includes physical, psychosocial, education, safety needs; synthesizes data; anticipates discharge needs; develops relationships.
Planning – collaborates with patient/family; uses multidisciplinary resources; communicates; addresses cultural/ethnic issues; prioritizes tasks.
Research – reads journals; brings ideas for staff discussion.

Education Requirements:
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina; Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements:
One (1) year of nursing experience.
