POSITION SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician is responsible for providing pharmacy services which include, but are not limited to, preparing and distributing pharmaceuticals, maintaining pharmacy records, packaging and shipping medications, and operating/monitoring pharmacy automated technology systems. The Pharmacy Fulfillment Technician works under the direct supervision of the Pharmacists and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor to ensure delivery of high quality patient focused pharmacy service.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES
Maintain and perform medication fulfillment related competencies for central fill, traditional, and specialty prescriptions.
Place completed prescription medication into appropriate packing containers and use associated supplies to ensure product integrity is maintained throughout the shipping process, including weighing, labeling, and recording information about each package within the shipping software.
Ensure packages are securely sealed using hand tools, adhesives, padding, and other products to protect contents following approved guidelines.
Follow URAC standard and regulations for fulfillment and distribution of specialty drugs.
Ensure shipping patient/clinic mailing/destination address label is accurate to ensure package arrives at the designated locations within set time.
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and/or the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, support the department in the ethical practice of pharmacy on a daily basis by providing effective, appropriate, and safe pharmacy services.
Prepare prescription orders in a timely manner; retrieve, count, measure, and prepare medications as directed. Ensure all work is checked by a pharmacist.
Support the service needs of the pharmacist relative to pharmacy services and maximize patient care outcomes, such as ensuring the prescription is dispensed to the correct patient in a professional manner.
Communicate to pharmacists and/or pharmacy technician supervisor about malfunctioning equipment and unsafe working conditions.
Maintain own professional and specialized competency, including:
Participate in experiences necessary to ensure appropriate skill development and training.
Maintain and display appropriate knowledge of developments in the field through continuing education, reviewing pertinent literature and/or attending professional meetings.
Attend and participate in hospital and other management training and development workshops.
Maintain registration with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.
Maintain excellent familiarity with appropriate department policies and procedures, including:
Adapt to changes in departmental needs such as offering assistance to other team members, floating, adjusting assignments, etc.
Maintain all designated medical information confidential per established protocols.
Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, to provide the best possible customer service and patient care.
Utilize hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the department and the hospital's mission and goals.
Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
Adhere to all of BMC's RESPECT behavioral standards.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
Requires a high school diploma (or state accepted equivalency).
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Must be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the MA Board of Pharmacy by the hire date (Pharmacy Interns are not required to hold CPhT certification).
Must also have national certification from Pharmacy Tech Certification Board (PTCB) or Exam of Certified Pharmacy Techs (exCPT), or obtain within 6 months from start date.
Pharmacy students who have completed 2 years of education in an approved college/school of pharmacy are eligible for pharmacy internship, and may be waived for the required experience.
6 months - 1 year of work experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Work requires effective interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with hospital staff, patients, families/visitors, physicians, colleagues, and others.
Ability to speak the English language, read, interpret and follow complicated verbal and written instruction with precision, accuracy and dependability.
Ability to multi-task, prioritize essential tasks and meet deadlines.
Math skills required; ability to perform work accurately and pay high attention to details, including basic mathematical functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios/proportions).
Basic computer proficiency inclusive of ability to access, enter, and interpret computerized data/information.
Must maintain the required level of competency to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
Compensation Range
Compensation Range:
$21.39 - $30.05
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
