Required License, Registration, and Certification
Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license that is in good standing, and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from patients or sharp instruments.

Shift
Must be able to work two 12‑hour shifts every weekend (Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday) from 7 PM to 7:30 AM, totaling 24 hours. Pay and benefits included as part of the Weekend Premium Plan (WEPP); may be required to work some holidays.

Job Summary
Registered Nurses on the Chandler 8 Main at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for Adult Medicine Services patients who are moderately stable, may have fluctuating acuity, complex needs, and require comprehensive care. Patient care includes frequent assessment of pulmonary, renal, cardiac, vascular, and neurological conditions.

The primary responsibilities include providing total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care: assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants); and adhering to university, federal, state, and local regulations. Collaboration among nursing staff and physicians enhances communication and expected patient outcomes, integrating the nursing process with a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
The ideal candidate should possess knowledge of Maslow’s eight basic human needs, Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns framework, and Swanson’s Caring model; excel in direct patient care and critical thinking; basic computer and internet navigation skills; effective professional communication with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians; and strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills. The candidate must be highly motivated, proactive, and confident in advocating for patients and their families, and enjoy working in a team environment with open, honest communication. Exceptional technical ability and proven teamwork, both independently and collaboratively, are essential.

Preferred Education and Experience
BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience.
