Overview

Performs direct patient care including assessment, evaluation, and basic life support according to Mercy Health System goals, philosophy, Standard of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. EMT-I’s may also perform clerical, dispatch, and maintenance duties as required and perform related duties as assigned.

Full‑time EMT position at Mercy Springfield.
Hours: 42/84.

Licensure

EMT license for the state of employment, valid driver’s license.
Qualifications

Experience: Applicants must be at least 19 years of age to operate Mercy EMS vehicles.
Certifications/Registration: Hazmat Awareness, BLS for Healthcare Providers, NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Education: H
Preferred Certification/Registration: ITLS or equivalent training.
Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements

Unimpaired mobility; must respond quickly to ambulance, access patients in difficult terrain, climb stairs, work in close and dangerous environments such as damaged vehicles, and work with partner to carry equipment and patients. Must perform strenuous physical requirements such as CPR, lifting and moving of equipment and patients in a variety of environmental conditions. Must perform required medical skills and techniques. Must have correctable vision acceptable for day and night operation of emergency vehicles, color acuity adequate for determining skin and blood color, and be able to read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes. Must hear and understand information provided by patients, family or bystanders; hear breathing sounds and accurately determine auscultated blood pressure; differentiate separate conversations in active, distracting environments; hear and understand radio traffic when responding with lights and sirens. Must speak and enunciate clearly and at a level audible to others in loud conditions, speak clearly in stressful situations, and verbally communicate with patients, families and other emergency services personnel. Incumbents must successfully satisfy the physical demands of the role, including a pre‑hire and annual fitness for duty test.
