Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Specialist-Healthy Steps. In this role the child development specialist works in collaboration with the pediatric care team and provides support to families and children to facilitate healthy development, self‑regulation skills, and family resilience. The specialist conducts child development assessments and offers guidance to parents and primary caregivers during well‑child visits to promote children’s healthy growth and development. The position primarily serves in pediatrics and aims to deliver a new model of care that screens children and families and connects them with specialized services early on.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct office visits and developmental screenings in collaboration with the pediatric care team.

Work closely with the pediatric team as a resource for developmental and parenting concerns.

Facilitate parental and caregiver education and mental wellness groups.

Participate in reflective supervision meetings.

Provide anticipatory guidance to parents and other primary caregivers on common concerns such as early learning, fussiness, sleep, feeding, discipline, etc.

Document all patient activity and care coordination in the patient record and other appropriate data systems.

Provide referrals and track follow‑up, as appropriate, to connect families to services when a delay or concern is identified.

Work closely with pediatric providers on care coordination, goal setting, counseling, coaching, and education about key aspects of a child's development.

Minimum Qualifications

Masters degree in nursing, psychology, counseling, or social work is required.

Minimum two years of experience with parenting, child development, social work, or human service work.

Bilingual in Spanish and English is required. Depending on the work site, either language combination may be required. English proficiency (speaking and writing) is required. Spanish/Mandarin fluency is required; written Spanish/Mandarin proficiency is a notable plus.

Preferred Licenses
Licensed Social Worker – NYS

Preferred Qualifications

Strong preference for candidates who are licensed and currently registered to practice nursing, psychology, counseling, or social work in New York State.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated expertise in child development issues.

Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved populations in a community setting.

Empathic, supportive, and patient.

Strong motivational interviewing skills.

Ability to work with people from many cultures.

Ability to take initiative and a willingness to learn.

Ability to work well both in teams and independently.

Ability to collect and enter data for program management, evaluation, and reporting purposes.

Salary Information
The salary range for this role is $69,071.97–$81,249.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The listed salary does not include bonuses, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
