
Building Trades Intern

Job Description
Reporting to the Building Trades Manager, the Building Trades Intern will assist with the performance of tasks in the building trades including carpentry, masonry, and painting in support of building maintenance in the Facilities Department on the VT campus.
Required Qualifications
Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or more with assistance; maneuver materials up and down stairs; climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders and scaffolds; work for long periods of time standing, walking, reaching, bending, and pushing/pulling.
Ability to communicate effectively, have good team work skills, and be able to understand, comprehend and follow directions in the workplace.
Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
May be required to work additional hours/shifts to meet the needs of the department.
May be required to help with projects from different departments under the Building Trades umbrella deemed necessary by Supervisors, Weather Events, Special Events, Altered Schedules, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience with painting, carpentry and moving trades.
Previous experience in a large commercial or educational setting.
Previous construction experience.
