The Ithaca Times is an award‑winning local news organization building on an extraordinary 53‑year legacy. We’re seeking a design and audience engagement associate passionate about supporting local reporting in Ithaca.

As we move the design and production of our print and digital editions in‑house, we’re seeking a motivated, self‑starting individual to lead this project.

If you are excited about seeing your work across social media, our website, newsletters, and our print newspaper, we want to hear from you.

What you’ll do
You’ll work with journalists, editors, and business staff on design and marketing projects with company‑wide impact. In the position, you’ll have the opportunity to share your skills, passions, and interests to help shape what your work will look like.

Here are a few examples of past work that associates have done:

Designing front‑page covers for the Ithaca Times’ weekly print edition.

Creating logos and brand guidelines for a new newspaper startup launching in the Finger Lakes area.

Conducting audience research and surveys to develop marketing plans.

Creating graphics for social media posts.

Preferred qualifications

A marketing and design background with a passion for news, OR a news background with a passion for marketing and design.

Proficiency with tools like InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Familiarity with content management systems like WordPress and Blox Digital.

Comfort pulling insights and making data‑driven decisions.

Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.

The ability to juggle multiple assignments at once.

Strong organizational and project‑management skills.

How to apply

Must be currently legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status, 0-1, TM, CPT, OPT, etc.). We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

Compensation and Career Growth
You will work 8‑10 hours per week at a starting hourly rate of $17.50. Eventually, we’re hoping to expand the production role to 20‑30 hours per week. The person selected for this role will be eligible to apply for the expanded position, and the experience gained will strengthen their application.

This is a hybrid role, with primarily remote work. The hours are flexible. The ability to travel to the Ithaca and Tompkins County area is a plus.
