
Per Diem-Hospital assistant-DOU-Days

Position Summary
Work under the direction of a Registered Nurse. This position provides direct patient care in a safe and effective manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: data collection and age‑appropriate care; nursing assistant interventions and communication with patients and other care team members; maintaining constant direct observation; performing activities of daily living such as hygiene/bathing, linen changes, cleaning protocols for patients with central lines and urinary catheters; assisting with ambulation, meals, toileting, vital‑sign collection and reporting; responding to patient call lights and assisting with phone answering. The Nursing Assistant reports to the registered nurse and to a Nursing Assistant buddy when taking breaks. The role offers the opportunity to float across hospital units, serving as a constant observer or Nursing Assistant as needed.
Required Qualifications
Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
Must demonstrate customer‑service skills appropriate to the job
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
One year of acute‑care experience. If unavailable, consideration will be given to staff with strong education and related experiential background.
Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification
Current Nursing Assistant Certificate or enrollment in an RN program with completion of the first semester
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of university and medical‑center organizations, policies, procedures and forms
Enrollment in a BSN program
Order entry and/or strong computer skills
Medical terminology knowledge
