We have an exciting opportunity for a GL Accountant to join our team in Ft. Madison, IA! This position is responsible for performing a variety of moderately complex general accounting support tasks in an accounting department, including verifying the accuracy of invoices and other accounting documents, updating and maintaining accounting journals, ledgers, and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., accounts receivable, disbursements, expense vouchers, payrolls, receipts, accounts payable), reconciling records with employees, management, external vendors, or customers, reconciling bank and financial statements/reports, and participating in recommending actions to resolve discrepancies and investigating questionable data. The role requires frequent contact with individuals representing other departments and/or outside organizations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs moderately complex general accounting support tasks in an accounting department.
Verifies computer printouts for propriety of accounting transactions and notifies operating personnel, making corrections when necessary.
Prepares analysis of moderately complex general ledger accounts.
Prepares journal vouchers monthly, allocating cost to appropriate projects/accounts, maintaining accounting files, and entering data into the computer system using defined programs and procedures.
Participates in research and analysis of accounting entries and initiates appropriate adjusting entries to maintain integrity of records.
Summarizes accounting data from detailed records, categorizing and calculating additional information for reporting and audit purposes.
Compiles data and prepares a variety of routine and non‑routine reports.
Responds to written and verbal inquiries from internal and external contacts.
May be responsible for aspects of bookkeeping functions.
May support internal and external audits by providing and coordinating document research.
Observes all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company.
Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating practices and procedures.

Job Qualifications

Typically requires a high school diploma and four or more years of progressive experience in an accounting department or a related field; additional experience may substitute for education.
Good knowledge of computer operations and applications, with proficiency in spreadsheets.
Ability to understand new concepts quickly, organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases, and determine appropriate approaches at task or project level to provide solutions to a range of difficult problems.
Strong communication, computer, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
Capable of working independently and as part of a team, effectively interacting with professional staff.
Ability to work extended hours as required.
Job Type: Full‑Time Hourly
Salary range: 43,740 - 65,033
