Description
The successful candidate will assist the head coach in the organization and management of a competitive NCAA Division III women's soccer program, including serving as the head coach for the William Smith Soccer Development Team and the Recruiting Coordinator for the entire WS soccer program. The William Smith Soccer program is comprised of two teams—varsity and development. Responsibilities include recruiting prospective students; teaching and coaching student-athletes for successful competition; supporting student-athletes' academic success; player development; cultivating alumni and parent relations; team travel planning; administrative tasks; and other duties as assigned.
Development Team Head Coach Responsibilities
In consultation with the head coach, design and implement the philosophy of the development team and integrate it into all practices and games.
Hold at least one development team–specific film session a week, when applicable.
Build and execute development team practice and game schedule with head coach approval.
Lead all communication and practice planning for the development team.
Manage travel logistics, equipment needs, and supervise any volunteer assistant coaches.
Integrate mental skills into training, teach focus skills, improve communication and create strong team chemistry.
Operate digital platforms to develop training, practice, and game plans.
Maintain exemplary conduct reflecting professionalism and good judgment.
Be knowledgeable of and compliant with all institutional, department, NCAA and conference policies.
Recruiting
Serve as the recruiting coordinator for all William Smith soccer teams.
Effectively recruit prospective student-athletes under the head coach’s direction.
Maintain the sport‑specific recruiting electronic database, logs, and visit calendars.
Coordinate on‑campus visits, junior days, and develop home‑visit recruiting presentations.
Oversee all aspects of creative video operations related to recruiting and social media.
Coordinate prospect camps and recruiting clinics.
Recruit student‑athletes who match William Smith’s academic profile.
Maintain open communication with other William Smith coaches regarding shared prospects.
Counseling and Advisement of Student‑Athletes
Provide individual meetings outside of practice with all development team players throughout the season.
Conduct post‑season individual meetings with all development team players.
Develop and maintain effective communication with student‑athletes.
Reinforce academic success as a priority.
Encourage positive relationships with faculty, deans, and staff.
Perform requirements as a Campus Security Authority pursuant to the Clery Act.
Professional Development
Maintain active membership in professional sport organizations.
Pursue formal and informal educational opportunities.
Participate in William Smith Peak Performance and other educational seminars and trainings.
Community Engagement and Fundraising
Promote William Smith Athletics in local communities.
Maintain positive relationships with youth groups, civic organizations, and media.
Develop strong relationships with William Smith alumnae and parents.
Other Department Responsibilities (≈20%)
Serve on Athletics Department operational teams as a game‑day manager for events assigned by the Associate AD.
Other Information
This is a full‑time, 10‑month, benefits‑eligible position. Evening and weekend work are required. Salary: $52,855.07. The position description is not all‑inclusive; additional tasks may be assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 2‑4 years of college‑level soccer coaching experience, strongly preferred.
Minimum of 4‑5 years of combined coaching or playing experience at the college level required.
Strong potential to teach, lead and counsel student‑athletes and enthusiasm for recruiting duties.
Integrity, high ethical standards, excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Commitment to NCAA Division III philosophy and William Smith Athletics mission.
Competence with technology resources and a current U.S. driver’s license.
CPR and First Aid certification required.
