Job Description
We are hiring an Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2 Flex to work in Homer, Alaska, as part of the Division of Transportation and Public Facilities Central Region Highways & Aviation. The role involves operating and maintaining heavy and light‑duty equipment for year‑round highway maintenance, snow and ice removal, traffic control, and support of State infrastructure.

Compensation

Journey 1: $28.78 – $30.76 per hour (OT eligible)

Journey 2: $30.60 – $32.71 per hour (OT eligible)

Responsibilities

Operate and service machinery such as excavators, graders, plows, bulldozers, asphalt distributors, and bridge inspection trucks.

Maintain vegetation, signs, barricades, fences, bridges, culverts, drainage structures, bike paths, and road surfaces within the State Right‑of‑Way.

Perform snow and ice removal using plows, sanders, and graders.

Execute traffic control duties and maintain safety protocols.

Work as part of a maintenance crew and, where applicable, on shift schedules.

Qualifications

Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). For Journey 2 a N‑Tanker endorsement is required at hire.

Prior experience operating heavy or light‑duty construction equipment.

Core competencies: Accountability, Conscientiousness, Flexibility, Self‑Management, and Teamwork.

Alaska resident (required).
