What will I be doing?
A mechanic installs, maintains, and repairs industrial, commercial, or residential cooling systems, including refrigerators, freezers, walk‑in coolers, and chillers. Key duties include diagnosing electrical/mechanical faults, repairing refrigerant leaks, replacing compressors, soldering, and ensuring compliance with EPA regulations for handling refrigerants.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Installation: Installing new cooling systems, components, and wiring, including brazing or soldering pipes and fittings, in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnosing malfunctions in refrigeration units, replacing broken parts (pumps, fans, motors), and repairing, re‑sweating, or replacing refrigerant lines.
Maintenance: Performing preventative maintenance, such as checking gauges, cleaning coils, adjusting valves, lubricating motors, and recording temperatures/pressures.
Compliance & Safety: Following EPA regulations for handling, recovering, and recycling refrigerants and maintaining a safe work environment.
Documentation: Keeping accurate, up‑to‑date records on service calls, repairs, and materials used.
What are we looking for?
Required Skills and Qualifications
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of refrigeration principles, electrical circuits, and HVAC systems.
Certifications: EPA Universal certification.
Tools & Equipment: Proficiency in using electrical testing devices, brazing equipment, gauges, and hand tools.
Run diagnostics for electrical problems.
Replacement of faulty components.
Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.), work in confined spaces, and stand for long periods.
Education: High school diploma or GED; completion of an apprenticeship or technical HVAC/R program is highly preferred.
Preferable skills:
Troubleshooting kitchen equipment such as oven/range, flat‑top grills, grills, and fryers.
