Summary
The Central Service Technician 2 provides on‑site support for the reprocessing of surgical instruments and trays to JHS facilities in compliance with the Department of Health, TJC and AORN standards and JHS goals and policies.
Responsibilities
Operates all mechanical machinery; cart washers, instrument washers, steam sterilizers, low‑temperature sterilizers, ultrasonic and drying cabinets, within sterile processing.
Uses established policies and procedures to complete work assignments.
Performs tasks in all areas of sterile processing including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, wrapping, sterilization, and storage processes within all set professional standards and regulations.
Conducts basic instrument tray assembly.
Reports broken instrumentation.
Supports and adheres to JHS policies and procedures.
Supervises and trains new personnel.
Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Experience: Generally requires 1 to 3 years of experience in sterile processing.
Education: High School diploma is required; a Bachelor’s degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
Skills
Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
Ability to understand and follow instructions.
Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
Knowledge and skill in use of job‑appropriate technology and software applications.
Credentials
Valid Sterile Processing Technician Certification by CBSPD or IAHCSMM is required.
Incumbents hired before November 20, 2019 must complete the required certification by December 31, 2021.
Physical & Environmental Conditions
Physical Requirements : Job requires extended standing or walking; must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds, and lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with appropriate devices.
Frequent visual acuity is required for activities related to extended use of computers.
Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, needle sticks, airborne infections, medical gases, X‑ray, chemical exposures and other potential hazards.
Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
Reasonable accommodations can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Work is conducted in a fast‑paced environment with occasional high‑pressure or emergent and stressful situations. Frequent interaction with a diverse population including team members, providers, patients, insurance companies and other members of the public.
