Summary
The Technical Designer, Denim is responsible for delivering exceptional garment fit and construction from development through production, upholding the highest standards of quality, precision, and craftsmanship in alignment with the brand vision. Reporting to the Senior Director, Technical Design & Operations, this role partners closely with Design, Product Development, and Production to maintain design integrity while ensuring consistency in fit, fabrication, and workmanship across all denim categories, bringing strong technical expertise in denim-specific fit, wash behavior, grading, and construction while independently managing assigned styles from initial development through final approval, proactively identifying and resolving fit and engineering challenges, balancing aesthetic intent with manufacturability, and driving timely execution in line with the merchandising calendar.
Responsibilities
Technical Development & Fit Execution
Independently manage assigned denim styles through all stages of development and production
Lead and participate in fit sessions on live models, evaluating fit, balance, and overall garment execution
Analyze samples for alignment with design intent, fit standards, and construction requirements; propose solutions through pattern corrections and garment re-engineering
Ensure consistency in fit across styles through application of grading standards and established blocks
Technical Documentation & Communication
Create and maintain comprehensive technical packages (tech packs), including detailed construction specifications, POMs, grading, and fit comments
Clearly communicate fit comments, technical direction, and approvals to overseas factories and cross-functional partners
Illustrate pattern corrections and construction details using Adobe Illustrator to support factory execution
Issue final graded production specifications with leadership alignment
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Design, Product Development, and Production teams to align on design intent, cost, and manufacturability
Collaborate with factories and vendors to resolve fit, construction, and workmanship issues in a timely and effective manner
Maintain strong communication with overseas offices and QC teams regarding fit status and approvals
Process Management & Calendar Adherence
Track sample development, proactively manage timelines, and anticipate fit sessions based on sample flow
Follow up with factories on key milestones (First Fit, PPS, TOP) to ensure adherence to Time & Action calendars
Prepare garments and documentation for fittings, including measurement verification and review of prior fit history
Approve samples at all stages within required timelines to support on-time production
Operational Support
Compile and maintain technical reports and reference tools (e.g., PK reports, zipper measurement charts, rib specifications)
Coordinate fit model scheduling and ensure accurate tracking of usage and timely invoice submission
Collaborate with patternmakers, production, and factories to resolve construction and workmanship issues
Ensure timely approval of fit samples and issuance of final graded production specifications in line with the production plan
Maintain clear, professional communication across all channels and contribute to a collaborative, feedback-driven team environment
Position requirements
3–5 years of Technical Design experience, with a focus on denim
Strong experience across men’s and women’s denim categories
Proven expertise in garment fit, grading, denim specifications, washes, and construction techniques
Experience within luxury or contemporary fashion environments strongly preferred
Ability to manage multiple denim styles and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Proficiency in RLM and Gerber systems preferred
