The Henry Ford Health Sterling Heights Emergency Department is a 15-bed free-standing facility.
Our staff has a close working relationship. The physicians, nurses, and technicians are all centrally located for ease of collaboration and communication, which leads to a positive work environment.
While a small ED, we are fast paced and work well together. We are looking for candidates to join our team.
GENERAL SUMMARY
Assist with patient care based on individual needs within the scope of practice under direct supervision of a registered nurse or Provider.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists RNs and Providers with assessments, examinations and treatments as requested. The following list of treatments/examinations is not inclusive and may vary by Business Unit:
Drawing blood and collection of specimens
EKG’s
Splint/immobilizer applications
Taking vital signs on adults and pediatric patients
Inserting neuro-gastric tubes
Urethral catheterization of adult patients
Discontinuance of peripheral IVs
Starting unmediated IVs
Prepares and assists Providers with procedures such as:
Suturing - preps patients and prepares sterile trays.
Application of casts.
Miscellaneous procedures including pelvic exams, lumbar punctures.
Assists patients as needed.
Recognize potential of life‑threatening dysrhythmias and abnormal vital signs and report same to RN/Provider.
Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.
Documents patient care performed.
Interact with patients and families as appropriate, ensuring excellent patient and customer experiences.
Transports patients and supplies.
Cleans equipment, monitors stock, and restocks equipment and supplies as required.
Assists in ordering routine equipment; maintains enough stretchers, wheelchairs, suction equipment, etc. in ER area.
Maintains departmental cleanliness and prepares rooms between patients.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
BCLS certification required.
Previous Emergency Department Technician, Medical Assistant experience preferred.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED
One of the following certifications/programs required:
B-EMT
Graduate from a formal Medical Assistant program.
Completion of a formal nursing education program.
Completion of a formal medical doctor education program
OR One (1) year of applicable Emergency Room Technical experience in lieu of above completion of certification/program.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Must complete applicable certification/program within 12 months of hire.
Successful completion of a 180‑day orientation period required.
EMT license preferred.
