Robotics Software Engineer

GE Vernova Inc, Niskayuna, NY, United States

Job Description Summary
The Robotics Software Engineer is a hands‑on technical contributor within the Robotics & Computer Vision team at GE Vernova Advanced Research. This role develops advanced software for next‑generation robotic arm solutions supporting inspection, repair, and advanced manufacturing applications in the energy sector. The role focuses on motion and path planning for industrial manipulators, closed‑loop manipulation with on‑arm cameras, and robust 3D perception pipelines for autonomous operation in complex field and factory environments.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, test, and maintain production‑quality software for robotic manipulation and autonomous operation.

Develop scalable and maintainable software architecture in C++ and Python, applying strong software engineering practices including modular design, code review, testing, and version control.

Contribute to shared Git‑based repositories and support high‑quality development workflows across the robotics software stack.

Build and maintain deployment pipelines that support the transition of lab‑developed robotics capabilities into deployable systems.

Utilize modern software development tools and practices, including CI/CD workflows, containerization, and build systems such as CMake.

Support software integration across system components and contribute to reliable deployment on target robotic platforms.

Develop and optimize motion planning, path planning, and manipulation algorithms for industrial robotic arms, including platforms such as FANUC, ABB, and UR.

Support integration of planning and control software with robotic hardware to enable robust and precise operation in laboratory, factory, and field environments.

Contribute to closed‑loop manipulation workflows that combine perception, planning, and execution.

Implement closed‑loop perception solutions using on‑arm cameras and other sensing modalities, integrating 2D and 3D vision with robotic control in ROS2‑based systems.

Build 3D scanning and point cloud processing pipelines, including filtering, segmentation, registration, and pose estimation for object localization, inspection, and grasping tasks.

Develop robust perception capabilities that support autonomous operation in complex and unstructured environments.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary R&D teams across GE Vernova, including robotics, computer vision, controls, mechanical engineering, and application teams.

Participate in system integration, field validation, and technical troubleshooting to ensure solutions are robust, practical, and aligned with application requirements.

Help translate early‑stage concepts into fieldable systems for inspection, repair, manufacturing, and other energy‑sector applications.

Qualifications & Requirements

Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Strong proficiency in C++ and Python, with demonstrated experience writing clean, scalable, testable, and maintainable code.

Strong experience with robotics software development in ROS2, including node development, system integration, and communication across sensors, actuators, and control components.

Strong experience with industrial robot programming and integration, including deployment on FANUC, ABB, and/or UR robotic arms.

Experience developing motion planning, path planning, control, or manipulation software for robotic systems.

Hands‑on experience with 3D perception systems, including 3D cameras and/or LiDAR, point cloud processing, segmentation, object registration, and pose estimation.

Experience with modern software engineering practices, including collaborative Git workflows, code reviews, build systems such as CMake, and test‑driven or validation‑focused development.

Experience with containerization and deployment workflows, including Docker and CI/CD pipelines.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contribute to complex technical projects.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Must be willing to work on‑site at GE Vernova Advanced Research in Niskayuna, NY.

Legal Work Authorization is required for this position. We will not sponsor individuals at the Master’s level, now or in the future, for this position.
