Your Role on the Team
Installs, modifies, repairs, and maintains electrical systems up to 480 volts in, on or around university buildings at a journeyman electrician level.
What It Takes to be Successful
Required
Working knowledge of local and national electrical codes and regulations.
Ability to read and follow blueprints, schematics, and one-line diagrams.
Ability to give and follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to instruct and lead semi-skilled or unskilled assistants in performance of job duties.
Completion of a trade school or journeyman apprenticeship program with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
Ability to set up and use a variety of meters, test equipment, and tools unique to the electrical field (e.g., voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, meggars, hydraulic benders, knockout punches).
Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical maintenance.
Driver's License
Required to hold a valid driver’s license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
Preferred
Electrical maintenance and construction experience in a university or research environment.
Class B license preferred for boom truck operation.
Special Conditions
Must possess a valid California driver’s license.
Must be willing to work nights, overtime, on-call, and weekends.
Must be able to wear a respirator.
Must wear safety glasses and safety shoes.
Must work on high scaffolds, ladders, lifts, and confined spaces (tunnels/manholes).
