Description
As the academic administrator for the Nurse Aide discipline area, the Coordinator, Nurse Aide Instructor provides accessible, quality learning experiences within the classroom, laboratory, and distance learning settings; facilitates learning; offers academic and career advisement; seeks professional development opportunities; maintains office hours; completes required course assessments; attends college meetings and institutional functions; contributes to curriculum development; and collaborates with educational partners to meet student and partner needs.

Examples of Duties
Essential Functions

Plans and delivers accessible instruction that enhances student learning and ensures understanding of course outcomes.

Instructs 15-22 contact hours weekly (or a reduced load approved by the Vice President of Instruction). Prepares objectives, assignments, assessments, instructional and supplemental materials, grading standards, and attendance policies.

Develops course syllabi; keeps online courses updated; begins and ends courses as scheduled.

Ensures classroom environments (seated, online, or hybrid) are appropriate for all learners.

Remains available via office hours, appointments, and communication for all students.

Maintains accurate attendance and grade records; submits reports timely.

Stays knowledgeable of program/transfer requirements; provides accurate academic and career advising.

Develops or revises courses, recommends textbooks, supplies, software, and equipment.

Creates the program’s course schedule with faculty input; assigns teaching workloads.

Participates in institutional effectiveness processes such as program review, course outcome assessment, and grants; contributes to division action plans.

Manages departmental budget; plans future resources; recommends staffing needs.

Mentors and evaluates faculty to ensure quality instruction and completes related forms.

Participates in recruitment and retention efforts; reviews and enhances program publications, webpages, and publicity.

Builds productive relationships with faculty, staff, advisory committees, agencies, and partners.

Collaborates to ensure quality instruction and alignment with division goals, the College’s Strategic Plan, and state‑wide initiatives.

Supports collaboration with other divisions to align credit and non‑credit courses where appropriate.

Attends workshops, seminars, conferences; presents to outside agencies; conducts research; implements teaching best practices; completes at least 30 hours of professional development and required training.

Supports college retention, progression, and completion initiatives; ensures student success.

Adheres to all policies, procedures, and faculty guidelines; supports the college’s mission, vision, and core values.

Marginal Functions

Serves on standing and ad‑hoc committees and focus groups.

Researches and develops recommendations related to academic and instructional programs.

Maintains contacts with business, industry, and professional organizations.

Travels to Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or off‑campus sites if needed.

Participates in public information activities; supports college functions and cultural activities.

Assists with inventory of program equipment; assumes responsibility for labs and facilities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions: The coordinator should effectively handle a work environment and conditions that involve an office and classroom workspace, working closely with others, and occasionally working irregular hours. The coordinator must maintain cleanliness, functionality, and OSHA compliance.

Physical Conditions: Duties require standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods; moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity; operating assigned equipment; extended exposure to computer screens; and strong audio‑visual discrimination for observations, reading, writing, and communication. Mental capacity is required for sound decision‑making and program evaluation.

Scheduling Conditions: This is a full‑time, 12‑month position requiring 36 hours per week. The instructor must be on campus or an approved alternate location for at least 27 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling for the remaining 9 hours.

Traveling Conditions: Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or other off‑campus sites may be required. Out‑of‑state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.

Experience and Training
Required Experience

At least two years of increasingly responsible professional experience as a registered nurse (4,000 hours) and one of the following: teaching or counseling at a post‑secondary level; completion of a course in teaching adults; or experience supervising nurse aides.

At least one year (2,000 hours) of professional RN experience in long‑term care services: working in a licensed skilled nursing facility; or a distinct part of a hospital; or supervising or teaching students in such a facility.

Required Training

Associate’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

Current unrestricted license or multi‑state licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
