Dispatcher / Dispatcher Trainee – Emergency Coordinator I

Job Summary:
The dispatcher or dispatcher trainee will perform emergency dispatch duties from Division VI Headquarters. The role includes sending and receiving information, dispatching emergency assistance, operating CAD, VCIN, NCIC, NLETS, maintaining logs, and working rotating shifts.
Responsibilities
Perform work within a specific geographic area by sending and receiving information and dispatching emergency assistance or service equipment as required; assist law enforcement personnel or the public.
Aid law enforcement personnel, emergency personnel, the public, and the media.
Operate various equipment including CAD, VCIN, NCIC, NLETS, and other databases.
Maintain logs and records of activities.
Work rotating shifts and be considered essential personnel.
Qualifications
Knowledge of operating standard office equipment such as fax and copy machines.
Skill in operating computers, using Microsoft Office, data entry, problem‑solving, and customer service.
Ability to effectively communicate with the public; work in high‑pressure environments; exercise resourcefulness and sound judgment under stress and multitask.
Ability to manage complaints or compliments, directing them to appropriate supervision.
Capacity to enter and record information into automated systems, keeping records and logs updated.
Effective oral and written communication in English.
Flexibility to work independently and as part of a team; willingness to work holidays, weekends, and rotating shifts.
Successful completion of required training within six months from hire.
Eligibility for Virginia Criminal Information Network certification, requiring U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status and eligibility for naturalization.
Additional Requirements
For trainees:
Limited experience; upon satisfactory completion of the Dispatcher Trainee Training Curriculum, employees advance to Dispatcher (Emergency Coordinator II) and receive a 10% salary increase.
Experienced candidates who are not placed in trainee status are not eligible for the 10% salary increase.
