Technical Services Librarian, Revere Public Library (Revere)
Reporting to the Library Director, the technical services librarian is responsible for cataloging library materials, maintaining accurate bibliographic and holdings records, managing purchase suggestions and interlibrary loan requests, performing collection review, resource sharing, and providing public service duties such as circulation and readers’ advisory services. The role involves processing and cataloging books and other materials, maintaining the integrated library automated system, overseeing acquisitions, and exploring and integrating relevant library technology.
Responsibilities
Perform elementary descriptive cataloging (original and copy)
Enter materials in the library database in conjunction with NOBLE network staff
Establish and maintain library-wide consistency in cataloging
Maintain the library database, including marking missing items and removing weeded items
Process materials, including applying barcodes and covers, replacing media cases
Maintain receipt of materials ordered and verify against invoices
Assist with developing a local history collection and digitization of local history resources for the Commonwealth Catalog
Check in and check out library materials
Re-shelve materials
Help patrons find library materials, both print and electronic
Understand and explain library policies
Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
Experience in public or academic libraries
Familiarity with various file formats
Thorough knowledge and expertise in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office programs
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Evergreen or other Integrated Library Systems
Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
Revere residency strongly preferred
Knowledge, Ability & Skills
Knowledge of Windows and Apple operating systems, Microsoft Office suite, Google Chrome, cloud apps such as Google apps and Dropbox
Knowledge of various metadata schemas
Knowledge of computer applications and internet usage, including printers and browsers
Ability to learn new skills easily, including new computer software
Ability to work effectively and accurately under pressure in a fast‑paced environment
Ability to use office equipment such as telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, printers and basic troubleshooting
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Ability to deal effectively, tactfully, and appropriately with the public
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and establish effective working relationships with co‑workers, patrons, community organizations, and stakeholders
Ability to be customer‑focused, friendly, handle situations with discretion and tact, take initiative, be resourceful, and practice good judgment
Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
Physical requirements: climb stairs, stand for extended periods, lift a minimum of 30 pounds
Independent problem‑solving skills
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Excellent program planning and organizational skills
