
Staff Accountant

Vaco is working with a property management and real estate company in search of a Staff Accountant. This person is responsible for supporting the accounting and financial reporting functions for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties as well as real estate development projects. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, assists with project cost tracking, and supports month‑end close processes related to both stabilized assets and active development activities. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, understands real estate accounting principles, and can work collaboratively with property management and development teams.
Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain monthly financial statements for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets.
Record journal entries, accruals, and account adjustments in accordance with GAAP or Tax Basis.
Perform monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
Track and reconcile operating expenses, CAM recoveries, and tenant‑related receivables.
Assist with budget preparation, variance analysis, and forecasting for assigned properties.
Coordinate with property managers to review financial results and resolve discrepancies.
Support annual audits and tax preparation by providing requested schedules and documentation.
Track and record development project costs, including construction invoices, soft costs, and capital expenditures.
Maintain development budgets and assist with cost‑to‑complete analyses.
Process and review construction draw requests and lien waivers.
Work with development managers to ensure costs are properly coded to projects and phases.
Monitor project budgets versus actual spending and report variances.
