National Interstate, a division of Great American Insurance Group, is looking for an
Associate Underwriter I
to join its team in Richfield. The position is hybrid: four onsite days (Tuesday–Thursday, with a fourth day chosen as needed) and one remote day.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Assist in the review and evaluation of applications to ensure alignment with company policies and underwriting guidelines.
Collaborate with underwriters and brokers/agents to gather additional information and clarify application details.
Review relevant data, including financial statements, property valuations, and loss histories, to aid in risk assessment.
Assist in maintaining underwriting files, ensuring all documents and approvals are properly filed.
Compile reports on risk evaluations, policy statuses, and portfolio performance for underwriters and management.
May underwrite new and renewal policy transactions within written authority.
Enter policy information on an assigned product, territory, and/or agency in accordance with template rules.
Proof and audit policy information on an assigned product, territory, and/or agency(ies).
Review premium and loss data on individual accounts as part of renewal, change, or mid‑term underwriting.
Order and review required reports, endorsement requests, service requests, and general correspondence.
Research and respond to questions from brokers/agents.
Provide information to Processing for policy issuance and endorsements on a timely basis; may issue, process, or code transactions.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Associate’s Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
Performs work under close supervision, utilizing complex processes on routine assignments.
Possesses procedural knowledge of coverage and forms, provisions for policies within the assigned territory/unit, workflow, and systems.
Demonstrates foundational written and verbal communication skills.
Works within established authority limits.
