Overview
The Mechanical Designer III is responsible for developing detailed 3D models and engineering drawings for electromechanical actuation and valve assemblies used in aerospace fluid handling and utility systems. These products include electromechanical actuators (EMAs), valves, pumps, sensors, and related components.
Working closely with a Lead Engineer and crossfunctional teams, this individual supports proposal efforts, new product development, and sustaining engineering activities. The role also provides direct support to manufacturing and test operations through tooling design, production improvements, and configuration control.
Responsibilities
Develop detailed parts, assemblies, and drawings using Creo, SolidWorks, and/or CATIA
Ensure all designs comply with applicable drawing standards, including ASME Y14.100 and ANSI Y14.5 GD&T
Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to support product development and production
Identify, document, and communicate discrepancies in models and drawings
Apply ITT standard procedures for drawing release, revision control, and configuration management
Complete sustaining engineering work orders to support production, cost, and quality improvements
Support Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Provide Material Review Board (MRB) support in coordination with Lead Engineers
Generate and support Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs) and engineering data transmittals
Support assembly and manufacturing operations by clarifying work instructions and developing tooling, fixtures, and test support drawings
Qualifications
Education / Experience (one of the following):
Associate's degree with 10+ years handson experience drafting mechanical assemblies
Bachelor's degree with 5+ years handson experience drafting mechanical assemblies
15+ years of relevant professional experience in lieu of a degree
Strong working knowledge of aerospace standards, specifications, and design practices
Proficiency in
Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
per
ANSI Y14.5
Advanced experience with
3D CAD modeling
and detailed drawing creation
Hands‑on experience using
Creo (preferred), Wildfire, SolidWorks, and/or CATIA
Ability to perform
tolerance stackup and tolerance analysis
Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to effectively collaborate with internal customers
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment
Aerospace industry experience strongly preferred
Nice to Have
Experience with aerospace fluid systems or electromechanical actuation hardware
Familiarity with AS9100 or FAA/EASA regulatory environments
Experience supporting production rampups or new product introductions (NPI)
