Patient Revenue Management Organization
Pursue your passion for caring with the Patient Revenue Management Organization, which is the fully integrated, centralized revenue cycle organization that supports the entire health system in streamlining the revenue cycle. This includes scheduling, registration, coding, billing, and other essential revenue functions for Duke Health.
This position is 100% remote. All Duke University remote workers must reside in one of the following states: North Carolina, Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, and Texas
*Now offering a $10,000 sign-on bonus that will pay out in 4 equal installments over 24 months-6-month increments.
Responsibilities

The Medical Records Coder II codes medical records using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions; coordinates and reviews work of subordinates; assists with training and continuing education.
Review medical records to assure specificity of diagnoses and procedures and appropriate reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges; abstract information from medical records following established methods and procedures.
Review complex medical records, code primary/secondary diagnoses and procedures, and ensure accuracy of DRG/APC assignments.
Coordinate and review the work of designated employees; conduct regular audits to ensure quality and quantity of work.
Consult with physicians and educate clinical staff on coding practices and conventions; communicate with nursing and ancillary services personnel for documentation needs.
Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, and surgical techniques; stay current with ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 guidelines for inpatient and outpatient coding.
Assist with special projects and other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma required.
Experience: Certification requirements include one of the following active/current credentials: RHIA (no experience required), RHIT (no experience required), CCS (one year of coding experience required), CPC or HCS-D (two years of coding experience required).
Degrees, Licensures, Certifications: Must hold one of the following active/current certifications: RHIA Hospital Coding, RHIT Hospital Coding, CCS Hospital Coding, CPC Homecare Coding, HCS-D Homecare Coding.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Advanced ICD-10-CM & CPT-4 coding conventions; anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; extensive DRG/APC reimbursement knowledge; coding software familiarity; effective written and verbal communication; data entry.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma required.
Experience: RHIA/RHIT with no experience required; CCS with one year of coding experience; CPC or HCS-D with two years of coding experience required.
