Position Overview
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is seeking a committed Legal Assistant 2 to provide advanced legal clerical support and high‑level secretarial expertise to our Office of Chief Counsel in the King of Prussia (KOP) Regional Office. Description of Work
As a Legal Assistant 2 you will support PennDOT Office of Chief Counsel attorneys and legal analysts by:

Maintaining up‑to‑date shared calendars for all KOP cases and advising attorneys of important due dates, upcoming trials, settlements, closings, and hearing commitments.

Assisting attorneys with statutory appeals by preparing, organizing, extracting, and maintaining pertinent legal case and subject area files.

Preparing and proofreading a variety of legal documents for filing with the appropriate court and determining the required documents for filing in the various counties served.

Creating and maintaining files for all motor vehicle and non‑motor vehicle cases and preparing standard legal forms such as subpoenas, orders, hearing notices, continuance applications, and requested pleadings.

Coordinating with Harrisburg to address closeout memos in license suspension cases, matters sustained to facilitate timely appeals to appellate courts, vacated orders, and other related tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information

Full‑time employment

Work hours: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday‑Friday, with a 60‑minute lunch break.

Telework: You may work from home part‑time, up to 3 days per week, after successful completion of the training period. Telework requires a securely configured high‑speed internet connection from an approved location in Pennsylvania.

Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable.

Qualifications
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

One year as a Legal Assistant 1 (Pennsylvania or equivalent federal title) or

Four years of responsible clerical, investigative, or enforcement work, including one year of legal clerical support experience or

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements

You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Veterans
Pennsylvania law (51 Pa. C.S. § 7103) provides employment preference for qualified veterans for appointment to many state and local government jobs.
