What You Will Do
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team in Bridgeport, WV as a Test Mechanic. In this role, you will perform a variety of tear down, sub-assembly, assembly and performance tests operations on all types of overhauls and repair of gas turbine engines. To succeed in this role, you must be highly attentive to detail and be able to work both independently and in a team environment.

This position will work on our A shift, which is Monday‑Wednesday from 5am‑5pm. You may train on a different shift for up to 6 months before transitioning to A shift.

Pratt & Whitney in Bridgeport, WV is a FAA regulated facility and as such under the U.S. Departments of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This position is considered safety sensitive in accordance with FAA Guidelines. Candidate will be subject to drug and alcohol testing per FAA’s regulation 14 CFR part 120, as well as 49 CFR part 40.

Key Responsibilities

Follow standard procedures, service bulletins, overhaul manuals, drawings, and special instructions sheets to plan and perform complex work. Working from inspection reports and rework instructions perform partial or complex engine tear down, visually checking for missing or faulty parts, nicks, scratches, etc. Repair and rework parts including reaming, shrink fitting, burring, stoning, polishing and changing parts, using a variety of mechanic's hand tools, jigs, fixtures, etc.

Replace defective parts or assemblies and reassemble major and detail components checking that parts are assembled properly. Use a wide variety of Jigs, fixtures, test equipment, standard and special assembly tools.

Check dimensions for backlash, endplay, fits, clearances, and other specified requirements with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators and a variety of fixed gauges working to close tolerances.

Following standard test procedures and using established curves, charts, and test specifications, run prescribed tests. Regulate performance by setting and coordinating controls to obtain desired operational settings within close limits at specified points and within specified time limits. Record on log sheet appropriate engine performance data and make all required checks. After completion of test, remove necessary equipment and accessories and dismount engine.

Occasionally enter test cell while engine is running to make minor adjustments. Watch for and recognize engine or equipment malfunctioning, diagnose cause of trouble and institute corrective actions.

Initiate TDMR to correct deficiency in paperwork and books (AIS).

Supply technical guidance and assist others to overcome technical difficulties. Help in the training of less senior co-workers.

Inspect company and personal tooling daily for non‑conformance such as nicks, burrs, broken and calibration date, and report deviations to supervisor/lead.

Package engines for final shipment.

Qualifications You Must Have

Active Powerplant License.

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Qualifications We Prefer

2+ years specialized training in maintenance, assembly or test of gas turbine engines or similar aircraft systems.

Prior experience working on Turbofan engines.

Knowledge of aircraft engine assembly procedures including fits and tolerances, use of precision measuring instruments and gauges, hand tools, special assembly equipment and the ability to work from complicated drawings and specifications.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.
