Job Summary
A. Supervision Received: Receives administrative oversight from the Mechanical Chief Engineer and operational supervision from the Project Engineering Manager.

B. Supervision Exercised: Directs assigned Engineers, Technical Specialists and Designers on a project.

C. Contacts: Communicates with the client to discuss Mechanical engineering scope, progress updates, coordination, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Position is part-time telework; may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.

Major Responsibilities

Directs and manages mechanical design and engineering activities for medium to large scale projects, managing complex interactions among multiple Bechtel entities or client-mandated collaborations.

Supports the project engineering manager in establishing the engineering execution plan, mechanical engineering budget and timeline; provides inputs and owns the engineering components of a mechanical estimate.

Performs and manages work in accordance with EDPs, design guides, and BSAPs; establishes mechanical engineering schedule in collaboration with all disciplines; prepares and approves project procedures.

Collaborates with Project Engineering Manager, Procurement, Construction, Startup, ES&H, and Project Controls to align tasks; supervises activities for project proposals, including estimating personnel, reviewing quantities, developing schedules, and coordinating with the Chief engineer; conducts annual performance reviews.

Reviews and approves design documents, change orders, material requisitions and specifications; oversees bid analyses and procurement recommendations; addresses and resolves field or jobsite issues.

Conducts site visits as necessary; facilitates collaboration and alignment within the team.

Initiates correspondence related to the mechanical engineering portion of the contract.

Reviews mechanical engineering progress against schedules, evaluates changes, takes corrective action; recommends key personnel for assignments.

Supports Technical Risk Assessments, safety protocols, and ensures procedures follow the project's QA plan; conveys complex technical matters and offers recommendations.

Education and Experience Requirements

A recognized degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.

Professional license in a recognized licensing board (or international equivalent) is preferred.

15+ years of progressive work experience, including supervision, preferably in project and staff design engineering; may include startup, field engineering, plant operation in large industrial plants or engineering/construction firms.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Technical knowledge of mechanical engineering systems, calculations using standard software, construction methods, materials, and computer applications.

Knowledge of mechanical equipment such as chiller packages, HVAC, compressors, pumps, skid‑mounted packages, heat‑transfer equipment, pressure vessels, scrubbers, fire‑protection and exhaust systems.

Knowledge of construction practices, economics, and new design and construction methods.

Knowledgeable in industry and regulatory codes, facilitating coordination for approvals.

Proficient oral and written communication.

Proven ability to lead and supervise mechanical engineering teams.

Experience with modular design projects desirable.

Experience in greenfield or brownfield projects in semiconductor, AI data center, life sciences/pharma, or EV batteries.
