Role Overview
The Critical Response Team (CRT) RN role utilizes the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—to coordinate, delegate, and deliver safe, therapeutic nursing care to patients throughout the hospital. As an emergency responder, this nurse works alongside the Rapid Response, Code Blue, Code Stroke, Code Sepsis, Code STEMI, and CRT RN consult teams, with a primary focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and the delivery of high‑quality patient care. The CRT RN serves as a hospital‑wide resource for difficult IV placements and will be trained to place ultrasound‑guided IVs. In a smaller community hospital, this role supports multiple departments while applying critical thinking skills to meet a variety of patient care needs.

Job Requirements

Minimum of 2 years ICU experience.

ACLS certification.

CCRN certification (or willingness to obtain within 1 year of hire).

Charge RN experience.

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.

Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

One year of nursing experience.

Knowledge and ability to deliver complex care, educational needs, and utilization of multidisciplinary resources.

Responsibilities

Education - Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs; attend education programs; use appropriate patient education materials; assess readiness and developmental level of patients and caregivers.

Evaluation of Care - Identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance for plan of care revisions; discuss with interdisciplinary team; communicate information to promote continuity of care.

Implementation - Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; apply nursing standards and policies; organize and prioritize care; consult with appropriate resources in a timely manner.

Leadership - With assistance, develop goals to promote professional growth; achieve or renegotiate objectives; understand activities that facilitate intra‑ and inter‑departmental collaboration; participate in achieving unit goals and performance improvement; use communication systems; promote cost‑effective care and provide coworker feedback; comply with safety and regulatory policies.

Patient Assessment - Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities; synthesize assessment data for communication; anticipate discharge needs and build relationships with families.

Planning - Collaborate with patients and families; update care plans; utilize multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning effectively; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex patients.

Research - Read relevant journals; bring ideas and questions to staff for application assessment.

This is a 36‑hour/week position. Some weekends required.
