Description Of Work

The primary purpose of the Plant Maintenance Section is to ensure the successful operation of the physical plant and facility infrastructure. This position maintains and services all HVAC systems for Murdoch Center in addition to a satellite facility used for cold storage, the Oxford and Wright Path group homes, and the old ADATC facility consisting of seven buildings. This position repairs and provides preventive maintenance for all Murdoch Center’s heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration. New equipment is installed as required. On occasion, this position will assist with maintenance repairs and other types of work for other State agencies. All employees of Murdoch Center are designated as ESSENTIAL for adverse weather and emergency events.

Recruitment Range:

$41,655.00 - $72,897.00
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) / Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
Candidate must have working knowledge of tools.
Ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform repair procedures.
Experience using and troubleshooting commercial DDC HVAC control systems.
Experience reading and working with schematics and blueprints during the performance of maintenance and repair of commercial and industrial HVAC equipment.
Valid Driver's License

Murdoch Developmental Center is a 24/7 state residential facility located in Butner, NC, near the Research Triangle area. Veteran’s and National Guard Preference

Minimum Education And Experience

Some state job postings say you can qualify by an “equivalent combination of education and experience.” If that language appears below, then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience, OR a combination of both. High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
