General Ledger Accounting Controller

Job Overview:

The Controller, General Ledger Accounting is a senior management role reporting to the Director, General Ledger Accounting and is responsible for the day‑to‑day oversight of the East Region’s General Ledger Accounting team. This position ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timely delivery of monthly financial statements, maintains strong internal controls, and executes departmental processes and procedures in alignment with the Global Client Accounting Shared Services vision.

Job Description:

The Controller serves as a hands‑on leader and technical accounting expert who develops and supports the General Ledger Accounting team while collaborating closely with the Director and financial management leadership to deliver exceptional service to both the internal team and external clients. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to effectively build relationships, resolve issues, and ensure alignment across departments.

Remote Eligibility:

This is a remote position for residents of NC and SC.

Your Responsibilities

Manages and develops a team of General Ledger Accountants, including recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation.

Provides day‑to‑day leadership, guidance, and support to ensure workload balance, deadlines are met, and quality standards are maintained.

Supports the Director in developing and retaining high‑performing, diverse talent and fostering an engaged, collaborative team culture.

Clearly communicates expectations, responsibilities, goals, and performance standards.

Conducts regular check‑ins, one‑on‑one meetings, and provides ongoing feedback and coaching.

Identifies performance gaps and partners with the Director on development plans, coaching, or corrective action when necessary.

Promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability, cooperation, and continuous learning.

Oversees the preparation, review, and timely distribution of monthly financial statements in accordance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, management agreements, and client expectations.

Reviews monthly financials for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; investigates and resolves variances as needed.

Ensures proper property and financial reporting setup in accordance with governing documents and company standards.

Partners with the Director to identify, recommend, and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Supports standardization of processes and workflows in alignment with global shared services and center‑of‑excellence initiatives.

Works closely with Financial Management leadership to strengthen collaboration and enhance the quality of financial services provided to clients.

Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting.

Minimum of five years of progressive accounting leadership or supervisory experience, preferably within property management, real estate, or shared services environments.

Residential property management experience preferred.

Ability to lead people, processes, and systems with a hands‑on approach.

Solid technical accounting skills.

Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong financial acumen and analytical capabilities.

Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and deadline‑management skills.

Ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment.

Proven ability to prioritize, manage multiple deliverables, and meet tight deadlines.

Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across teams and levels.

Demonstrated commitment to service excellence.

Physical Requirements

Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, and carrying objects that can weigh up to 25 lbs.

Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Must be mobile enough to move around the office and property, including walking on uneven areas.

Must be able to communicate on phone and in person with clients to resolve issues and manage the business.

Must have finger dexterity for typing and using a keyboard.

Must be able to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary.

Must be able to adapt to indoor or outdoor environments with variable climate and lighting.

Must be able to work on multiple assignments simultaneously with frequent interruptions.

Must maintain safety awareness and be aware of health and environmental concerns.

Compensation
$110,000 – $120,000 annually.
