Duties
Serves as shift supervisor over a group of police officers who provide law enforcement and protective service.
Exercises control over assigned shift of police officers performing law enforcement and crime prevention duties to maintain law and order during normal and emergency operations.
Performs and supervises police duties to assure the protection of life, property, and the civil rights of individuals through the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, agency rules, and regulations.
Supervises the activities and operations of all shift law enforcement personnel with responsibility and authority on matters pertaining to shift activities and operations.
Enforces and maintains law and order to deter crime and other violations of law, regulation, policy, directive, or rule and to preserve and/or restore the peace.
Ensures DLA personnel, facilities, and resources are protected by maintaining adequate anti‑terrorism readiness posture.
Plans, controls, and supervises the activities and operations of the shift supervised.
Inspects shift personnel for minimum standards of appearance, readiness, and equipment operability prior to and during the course of duty assignment, to include observations of patrol posts.
Makes periodic inspections of assigned areas, immediately taking corrective action for any discrepancies noted.
Requirements
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Tour of Duty: Flexible.
Security Requirements: Non‑Critical Sensitive with Secret Access.
Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination; unfavorably adjudicated background checks will be grounds for removal.
Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
Recruitment Incentives: Not Authorized.
Supervisory Probation: Required.
Completion of Supervisory Certification Program: Required.
Bargaining Unit Status: No.
Selectees are required to have a REAL ID or other acceptable identification documents to access certain federal facilities.
LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT NOTICE: Convictions for domestic violence or a domestic‑violence protective order automatically disqualify.
Individual must have successfully completed the basic police training course at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (Glynco, GA), the U.S. Army Civilian Police School (Ft Leonard Wood, MO), or another police academy as determined by the Agency.
Must successfully complete and/or meet all formal and in‑service training and certification requirements (weapons certifications, CPR, AED, DOD and Joint Training Regulations).
Firearm Requirements: The incumbent must qualify initially and annually with their assigned weapon to maintain employment, with three opportunities to qualify.
Psychological Requirements: The incumbent must possess emotional and mental stability; job compatibility and interpersonal skills will be assessed during job interviews, medical evaluations, and ongoing supervisory observation.
Pre‑Employment Physical: Required.
This is a Mission Essential (ME) position; the incumbent may be required to report to work in the event of a natural disaster, inclement weather, or crisis.
Must possess a valid drivers license.
Required to wear a police uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per DLA policies.
Qualifications
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the specific competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, directly in or related to this position.
GS‑07: Assigns officers their individual assignments to ensure understanding and comprehension of responsibilities and duties. Assists in briefing the shift on pertinent information, scheduled or expected events, and criminal information in a “roll call” setting. Assists the change of shifts and ensures proper posting/dispatching of officers. Reviews reports and records prepared by shift personnel to ensure they are written promptly. Discusses with subordinates alternative methods in handling situations more effectively.
GS‑08: Discusses with personnel their individual assignments to ensure understanding and comprehension of responsibilities and duties. Briefs the shift on pertinent information, scheduled or expected events, and criminal information in a “roll call” setting. Conducts the change of shifts and ensures proper posting/dispatching of officers. Reviews reports and records prepared by shift personnel to ensure they are written accurately and provide comprehensive technical reports. Notes and records actions taken, obtains additional facts and information and discusses with subordinates alternative methods in handling situations more effectively.
Medical and Physical Requirements
Positions require moderate to hazardous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. Incumbent must be able to perform essential functions of the position, including acting as a first responder to all types of emergencies or volatile situations without risk. A medical evaluation will be completed annually. Incumbent must pass an initial and annual physical fitness test and medical evaluation.
Education
Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
