
Payroll Specialist

The Fiscal Officer for the School of Medicine Office of Business and Finance reports to the Associate Dean for Business and Finance and is responsible for maintaining records of routine accounting transactions, assist in analysis and interpretation of accounting records for use by the Associate Dean; Compiles financial and analytical reports for presentation and submission to both internal and external reporting agencies as directed.
Daily Operations
Applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports.
Prepares monthly analysis of financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and prepares balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and other reports to summarize current and projected financial position of the School of Medicine and the Meharry Medical Group.
Prepares explanation of variance reports for departmental performance.
May establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting control procedures.
Analyzes current and past budgets and accounting records of past and present operations, trends and costs, estimated and realized revenues, administrative commitments, and obligations incurred to determine status of the School of Medicine budget performance and project future revenues and expenses.
Examines and evaluates purpose and content of business reports to develop new, or improve existing format, use and control.
Prepares various outside agency reports.
Prepare and monitor monthly billings for physician and resident services, as well as, management of related accounts receivable for Meharry Medical Group and School of Medicine.
Performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned.
Prepare daily cash reports.
Required Skills
Knowledge of accounting methods and procedures.
Detail oriented.
Ability to extract data from conversation and documents.
Ability to perform complex numerical calculations.
Ability to work effectively with computer software.
Ability to analyze and interpret financial data.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
Ability to work with others so as to establish and maintain an effective working relationship.
Required Experience
Bachelors’ degree with a minimum of 36- quarter hours in accounting.
Masters of Business Administration in Accounting is preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience required.
Experience with reporting systems and data analysis is preferred.
