Staff Subsurface Data Management Specialist

Job Summary
The Subsurface Data Specialist role requires a self‑starter who thrives in a fast‑paced environment and is capable of managing a diverse range of challenges simultaneously. The primary focus is on cataloging and maintaining data inventories to support projects for the Geoscience and Reservoir Teams. Responsibilities include data receipt, organization, quality control, business and vendor collaboration, security and compliance, archival, documentation, monitoring and managing data storage levels, and proactively addressing storage issues.

Deep expertise across multiple subsurface platforms is essential, particularly proficiency in Kingdom, Paleoscan, and Petrel Studio. A solid understanding of E&P business with experience supporting New Ventures, Exploration, Appraisal, and Development is required.

Responsibilities

Follow Murphy data management workflows, including naming conventions and storage formatting guidelines.

Collaborate on the design, implementation, and optimization of data management processes and systems across Exploration and Subsurface Development.

Organize and structure project folders, and maintain and update the technical documents repository.

Maintain a working knowledge of current industry best practices for subsurface data, including seismic, well, and petrophysical data.

Perform gap‑analysis on data repositories and project databases to identify data for migration, archiving, or deletion and proactively manage storage loads.

Provide support for seismic data management, QC, organization, and loading into software suites such as Kingdom and Petrel.

Interface with vendors to resolve problems.

Seek or propose innovative solutions for continuous improvement in handling and managing all subsurface, geoscience, and reservoir data.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications & Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Computer Science, or a related field.

Minimum 12 years of experience in oil and gas.

Excellent understanding of E&P data types and familiarity with subsurface technical data management principles and practices throughout the data lifecycle.

Proficiency in project management for the following software: Paleoscan, HampsonRussell, Kingdom, Petrel, ArcGIS, DUG, Geolog.

Safety
The individual must take all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled environment and does not typically expose the incumbent to hazardous or extreme elements. Some positions may require moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
