Job Overview

The eligible list created from this announcement may be used to fill current and future vacancies during the life of the list.

TM III test requirement:

Applicants must have completed the TM III written assessment within the last year and received a score of at least 60% to qualify for the eligible list.

Location: Pagosa Springs.

Base pay: $68,244–$70,944 per year, paid biweekly over 26 periods.

Responsibilities

Ensures a safe and healthy work environment for all personnel on a day-to-day basis, keeping morale high.

Plans, assigns, and reviews the work of Transportation Maintenance Workers and other staff.

Ensures compliance with all applicable policies, laws, rules, and regulations.

Coordinates with other Transportation Maintenance Supervisors and operations managers to ensure maintenance activities are performed in accordance with plans, specifications, and agency standards; supervises activities through staff, equipment, and product scheduling.

Leads employees by training, mentoring, and coaching on‑the-job and in the classroom; monitors performance and addresses problems.

Supervises snow and ice control programs.

Supports and coordinates operations, initiates changes during emergencies, and assists in emergency response incidents such as road closures, accidents, haz‑mat spills, and road failures; coordinates with State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies.

Represents CDOT with cities, counties, other groups, officials, and the public.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment

Exposure to loud noise.

Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, dusts that may affect breathing, eyes, and skin.

Requires appropriate personal protective equipment.

Handles chemicals and cleaning products.

Some equipment requires respirators.

Work in close proximity to heavy traffic.

Use of ladders and scissor lifts for heights of approximately 10–20 feet.

Uses hand tools and heavy equipment such as backhoe, tractor, bucket truck, forklift, skid steer, loader, aerial devices, and other equipment.

Operates CDOT vehicles.

Exposure to high voltage (over 600 V) and electrical shock.

Positions may be nights-only or weekend.

Frequently responds to emergencies outside regular hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Must be physically able to work in extreme temperatures, variable weather, and elevations up to 12,000 ft.

Uses computers for daily duties.

Average work week is 40 hours with periodic overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

At least five (5) years of road/highway maintenance experience, including at least two (2) years as an official work lead over a maintenance crew.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated success performing the stated duties.

State service experience related to the duties.

Knowledge of CDOT incident management, maintenance operations, equipment, and budgets, including related policies and regulations.

Experience dealing with human resources and personnel issues.

Technical credibility with staff, peers, and internal and external customers.

Conditions of Employment

Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B with no restriction on air brakes that allows operation within Colorado.

For non‑Colorado CDL holders, must be eligible to drive in Colorado at time of hire and transfer within 30 days if relocating.

Must pass a pre‑employment screening, including credit reports, criminal and driving record checks.

May be required to pass a controlled substance test and DOT physical.

On‑call work, rotating shifts, and essential services designation.

May be required to reside within thirty minutes of the workplace.

New employees complete two weeks of maintenance training; veteran CDOT employees one week per year.

May be required to obtain a Hazardous Materials endorsement within 6 months to 1 year.

Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside regular hours and work overtime, including weekends and holidays.
